Gemstones in Vietnam Photos
There are so many precious gemstones in Vietnam.
There were legends of precious stones in the Khmer Kingdom, including Southern Vietnam dating back to the Middle Ages. Recent geological studies have confirmed the validity of these hypotheses and the country has a large reserve of sapphires and rubies.
There was little information on mining in Vietnam until the 1980s due to decades of war. Mines weren’t exploited until 1987 and then in 1989, a considerable amount of rubies and pink sapphires were mined in Vietnam.
Vietnam has a very rich source of gems. Gemstones in Vietnam consist of sapphire, rubies, zircons, yellow and green tourmalines, yellow-green chrysoberyl cat eyes, spinel, tourmaline, peridot, aquamarine, topaz, garnet, and quartz, as well as a variety of rare cultured pearls.
Amongst Vietnams most cherished possession is a 2.58 kg ruby crystal known as “The Star of Vietnam”, which was unearthed in 1997.
